Nani Marquina, Spain
Created by Japanese artist Michael Lin, Formosa evokes the name 16th century Portuguese sailors gave to the island of Taiwan. The rug's delicate and attractive style combines Pop aesthetics with Taiwanese pictoral tradition. Taking three years of meticulous work to reproduce the subtle use of colour on wool, Lin achieves his speciality of transforming large, cold and bland spaces into luminous organic fields of intense colour. The type of knot used to make Formosa, makes it 40% denser than other hand-knotted rugs, and consequently, it has more wieght and better quality.
Formosa is available in brilliant red or blue, and in two sizes; 170 cm x 240 cm, or 200 cm x 300 cm.
