Mercury
Ross Lovegrove, 2007
Artemide, Italy
Designed by Ross Lovegrove for Artemide, the Mercury collection of lighting is a futuristic spectacle of reflective indirect ambient light. A floating assembly of orb-like structures in various sizes hang below a simple modern aluminum disc. Casting an upward light from the two lowest orbs, each pebble in turn reflects each other, bouncing light between their bio-morphic surfaces, the aluminum disc structure, and reflecting the environment around them.
Each reflective mercury pebble is constructed from molded thermoplastic with a polished chrome finish. The disc like canopy is constructed from grey thermoplastic , with clear electrical cords and stainless steel cables. Mercury has an adjustable drop of max 78 3/4", with an overall canopy diameter of 43 5/16", and the hanging orbs falling 21 11/16" from the canopy. Mercury requires 2x200W (R7S/T3) bulbs, supplied with the fixture.
